6 local close contacts of PH's 1st Omicron subvariant case test negative for Covid-19—DOH

The six local close contacts of the country’s first case of the BA.2.12 Omicron subvariant have tested negative for Covid-19, the Department of Health (DOH) said on Friday, May 6.

"Six local contacts tested negative, while the remaining were not tested according to current protocols since they were asymptomatic," the DOH said in a statement.

"Of the 30 plane close contacts, three have already departed back to their home country," it added.

The DOH said that no additional close contacts have been identified. However, verification and updates are still ongoing.

To recall, the DOH announced the presence of Omicron subvariant BA.2.12 in the Philippines last April 27, involving a 52-year-old Finnish woman who arrived in the Philippines on April 2.

She had nine close contacts in Quezon City, five in Benguet, and 30 while she was onboard a plane going to Manila. The patient was able to recover from Covid-19 and returned to her home country on April 21.
