UP too much for UE

University of the Philippines outclassed University of the East, 25-19, 25-23, 25-23, to cap off the first volleyball quadruple-header of the UAAP Season 84 women's volleyball tournament on a high note at the Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay City Thursday night, May 5.

Rookie Alyssa Bertolano came out fiery for the Lady Maroons, scoring 18 of her 20 points off attacks.

Bertolano also delivered down the stretch and chalked up the last four points for UP as it improved to a 1-0 record while UE fell to a 0-1 slate.

Tied at 23-all, Bertolano soared for a solid crosscourt kill before unloading a jump serve for an easy ace for the win.

Prior to UE forcing the deadlock, it was also Bertolano who fired back-to-back down-the-line hits to make it a 23-21 affair in the third frame.

Irah Jaboneta added 13 markers, all coming from kills, for the Maroons.

Janeca Lana paced the Lady Warriors with 16 points built on 15 spikes while Dalrymple Lingay chipped in 12 markers.
