Evan Nelle caught fire from beyond the arc to help De La Salle survive University of the Philippines, 83-80, and force a do-or-die in the semifinals of the UAAP Season 84 men's basketball tournament at the Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay City on Wednesday, May 4.

Nelle sparked a strong third quarter run before returning to his sharp form in the payoff period as the Green Archers, who averted a late fourth quarter meltdown, turned down the twice-to-beat Maroons and will make their final semis push on Friday, May 6.
The 23-year-old court general became a scoring machine for the green and white, posting 26 points on an 8-of-13 shooting built on five three-pointers along with seven assists, six rebounds, and three steals in his first UAAP Final Four appearance.
De La Salle star Justine Baltazar had a double-double performance of 15 points, 18 rebounds, and three assists while Kurt Lojera chipped in 11 points, five rebounds, and four assists.
Michael Phillips contributed seven points and 15 rebounds while CJ Austria and Deschon Winston also scored seven points apiece.
"The boys really played hard today (Wednesday). The boys played 40 minutes of solid basketball. We played 40 minutes of solid, disciplined basketball today and that's what I've been asking them to do," said Archers coach Derrick Pumaren.
"We're proud of the way the guys played today. It was really a team effort. Everybody was on the same page in today's game and we're happy that we won the ball game but we just have to realize also that we only just tied the series," added Pumaren as the Fighting Maroons used their twice-to-beat advantage.
Carl Tamayo, Zavier Lucero and JD Cagulangan connived for an 11-0 spurt for UP heading into the fourth quarter, 66-55, to erase their 22-point deficit.
But the Archers once again led by as many as 16 points capped by Nelle's three-pointer midway through the payoff period before Ricci Rivero and Gerry Abadiano pumped life for the Maroons.
UP uncorked a commanding 15-2 run down to the waning seconds as Abadiano fired a booming triple with 13.4 ticks left to make it a one possession ballgame, 81-78, after Baltazar earlier fired blanks at the free throw line.
Rivero, who sparked UP's run but missed back-to-back triples near the one minute mark, misfired an open three-point shot from the right wing as Nelle split his free throws twice to ice the game.
Malick Diouf paced the Maroons with 18 points, 20 rebounds, three assists, and three blocks, while Rivero also finished with 18 points along with five blocks. Zavier Lucero added 17 points, 11 coming from the free throw line, to go with six rebounds.
