Cops uproot full-grown marijuana plants in Misamis Oriental town

CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY -- The Claveria town police in Misamis Oriental recovered and uprooted full-grown marijuana plants in Minantang in Poblacion village on Monday, May 2.

In a phone interview on Tuesday evening, May 3, Maj. Ralph Santoluma, chief of the Claveria police, said they uprooted a total of eight Marijuana plants.

The Claveria police’s continuous intelligence gathering and tracker team bore fruit after they received a report from a concerned citizen informing them of the said illegal plantation. The police immediately proceeded to the area.

Following the recovery, the Claveria police have started their investigation and intelligence gathering for the possible identification and location of the individuals who owned the marijuana plantation.

The police chief said the area is owned by a private individual and the land’s caretaker personally discovered the marijuana plantation and immediately reported it to the police.

“The caretaker while he was getting wood for firewood, he saw some strange plants and he reported them to us. They also don't know that there is such a plant there because they only go there once because of the difficulty of the place,” Santoluma said.

He said they will continue to monitor the area to possibly identify individuals who would go to the area to check their marijuana plantation.

The recovered evidence was being turned over to the Regional Forensic Unit 10 in Cagayan de Oro City for quantitative and qualitative examination.

Santoluma commended the responding police personnel for the operation and urged the public to frequently coordinate with the authorities if they have known personalities engaged in illegal activities in their area.
