UP Los Baños bags 'Edukalidad' award from CHED at the Gawad Parangal 2022

The University of the Philippines Los Baños (UPLB) received the "Edukalidad: Parangal sa Kahusayan Award" from the Commission on Higher Education (CHED) at the Gawad Parangal 2022 awarding ceremony on May 18 held at the Quezon City University.

The award was given to universities with more than five CHED Centers of Excellence (COE) since 2016.

UPLB has nine COEs that are in the fields of agricultural and biosystems engineering, agriculture, biology, development communication, environmental science, forestry, information technology, statistics, and veterinary medicine.

The "Edukalidad" award is only being given to nine universities in the country.

UPLB Chancellor Jose V. Camacho, Jr., together with UPLB vice-chancellors and deans, received the trophy.

“Ang parangal na ito ay magsisilbing inspirasyon upang iangat ang antas at kalidad ng higher education sa ating bansa, lalong lalo na ngayon na panahon ng pandemya (This award will serve as an inspiration to raise the level and quality of higher education in our country especially this time of pandemic),” said Chancellor Camacho in his acceptance speech.

Other awardees were UP Diliman, Ateneo de Manila University, Central Luzon State University, De La Salle University, Mapua University, Mindanao State University-Iligan Institute of Technology, University of San Carlos, and University of Santo Tomas.

The Gawad Parangal 2022 was held in celebration of the 2nd National Higher Education Day and the 28th Founding Anniversary of CHED. This is an annual recognition for different sectors that showed exemplary performances and efforts for their respective members. (Luisa Cabato)
