Phoenix Super LPG management said that Matthew Wright is committed to play in the season-opening PBA Philippine Cup amid offers to take his act overseas.

Wright was included in the opening day roster for the upcoming conference which opens Sunday, June 5, and team governor Raymond Zorrilla disclosed that the star scorer is intent on playing out the remainder of his current pact.
“Matthew Wright is on the roster, he will be playing,” Zorrilla said during a press conference held Monday at Conrad Manila in Pasay City.
“He has a live contract and he will honor that commitment to play for us, so we don't see any problem with Matt playing for the Super LPG Fuel Masters,” added the Phoenix executive.
The 31-year-old’s contract, however, is said to be expiring in August which will likely come at the end of the Philippine Cup. Wright signed a three-year deal back in 2019.
Japan has been considered as a possible destination should Wright decide to go elsewhere, given the number of Filipino players who are already there like Thirdy Ravena, Ray Parks Jr., Dwight Ramos and Justine Baltazar.
Kiefer Ravena is eyeing a short return with NLEX but will likely head back to sign a new deal with the Shiga Lakestars after the conference, a possible arrangement which the PBA has yet to decide.
Wright averaged 16.3 points on 36-percent shooting with 5.8 rebounds, 6.4 assists and 1.6 steals for Phoenix in 24 games during the 2021-22 season that saw Phoenix place ninth in the Philippine Cup and eighth in the Governors’ Cup.
