Daebak! South Korea allows visa-free entry to Jeju Island, Yangyang

South Korea will allow visa-free entry for tourists to Jeju Island and Yangyang starting June 1, the Embassy of the Republic of Korea in the Philippines announced.

"The Embassy of the Republic of Korea is very excited to announce that the Korean Government will allow visa-free entry to Jeju Island and Yangyang starting 1 June 2022," the embassy said in a statement on Tuesday, May 31.

Filipino tourists traveling to Jeju are allowed to enter the island via direct flights only. They can stay up to 30 days but they are "not permitted to travel to other regions outside Jeju."

The embassy said that some airlines are reportedly planning to schedule direct flights from the Philippines to Jeju soon.

Filipinos traveling to Yangyang, on the other hand, are required to book a group tour program arranged by a designated travel agency.

They are allowed to stay up to 15 days and travel around the cities and places in Gangwon Province and Seoul Metropolitan Area only.

They must, however, travel back to the Philippines via the Yangyang International airport.

"The Korean Embassy hopes that the visa-free entry will promote people-to-people exchanges between Korea and the Philippines via tourism," the embassy added.

It also reminded that tourists are still required to comply with the existing health protocols.

Tourists are told to visit the embassy's website for more information on the eligibility for the visa-free entry to Korea as well as the health protocols.

The embassy will also resume issuing all types of visa on June 1.
