Supporter of Dagupan City mayor shot to death in Pangasinan cockpit arena

CALASIAO, Pangasinan -- A supporter of Dagupan City Mayor Brian Lim during election and allegedly running for barangay chairman in the coming local election was shot to death by unidentified gunmen at the parking area of Pangasinan Coliseum in Barangay San Miguel on Sunday night.

The Pangasinan Provincial Police identified the victim as Leopoldo Ragotona, 47, businessman and a resident of Brgy. Pugaro, Dagupan City, Pangasinan.

The investigators said that the victim was walking along with Marcial Gonzales, alleged caretaker of the victim’s fishpond, at the parking area of the cockpit arena when two unidentified male assailants on board a motorcycle fired shots at Ragotona.

The victim sustained multiple gunshot wounds that resulted to his instantaneous death.

After killing the victim, the gunman took the victim’s money in his pocket before they fled to unknown direction.

Information gathered from sources revealed that Ragotona owned a fishpond and was a cockfighting aficionado.

Recovered at the crime scene were five pieces fired cartridge cases of cal .45.

The police were looking into the possibility that the victim’s debt may have something to do with the killing because of his alleged gambling activity.
