Solon responds to Marcos's 'pray for me' request

President-elect Bongbong Marcos asked Filipinos last week to "pray for him" so he may "do well" as a leader. San Jose Del Monte City lone district Rep. Florida “Rida” Robes said she will do just that.

“I know he will do well for the country and I will pray for him. I know he will do good because he has a good heart," Robes said in a statement Sunday, May 30.

"I will be here to support his legislative measures to help our country recover and bring a more inclusive and sustainable future for every Filipino,” said the lady solon, who is expected to be part of the looming supermajority bloc in Congress.

Marcos, 64, was finally proclaimed as president-elect by members of Congress sitting as the National Board of Canvassers (NBOC) last May 25.

After the proclamation rites, Marcos issued this appeal to Filipinos: "So I ask you all, pray for me, wish me well. I want to do well because when a president does well, the country does well. And I want to do well for this country."

The former senator amassed more than 31 million votes--over 16 million votes more than the second-placed opposition leader, Vice President Leni Robredo.

“We are very happy that we were able to deliver an overwhelming win for our president-elect and our vice president-elect in our city of San Jose Del Monte and our province. But we would not have done it without our mayors, vice mayors and our parallel groups who went the extra mile to campaign for our candidates,” Robes said.

In her city, Marcos obtained more than 65 percent of votes cast for president, garnering more than 143,000. Robredo only got around 52,000 votes.

For the whole of Bulacan, Marcos had more than 60 percent of votes, for a total of 1,040,157 votes to his name. Robes said this was the first time that a presidential candidate obtained more than a million votes in Bulacan.

Robes said more than 21 mayors of the vote-rich province expressed their support to the Bongbong Marcos-Sara Duterte Uniteam ahead of the May 9 polls.

Robes also led various efforts to campaign for Marcos and Duterte in Bulacan. These included a tricycle caravan all over the province and the “Sara para sa Barangay” campaign where she met with parallel and sectoral officials in Bulacan.
