Olsim, Mezabarba exchange fiery words heading into ONE 158

Jenelyn Olsim and Julie Mezabarba had a few things to say about one another before their atomweight bout on the lead card of ONE 158: Tawanchai vs. Larsen scheduled for this Friday, June 3, at the Singapore Indoor Stadium. 

The Brazilian is confident with her striking and believes Olsim will have issues dealing with her variety of weapons should the fight stay on its feet.  

“For sure she should be concerned about my striking and my range of punches, because like I said, I don't just use boxing. I apply a lot of elbows, knees, and other combinations. She needs to worry because she doesn't know what I'm going to do,” Mezabarba told ONEFC.com.  

“I believe that this fight ends in a knockout, precisely because I believe she will come to strike with me. I have more chances to finish this fight by knocking out.”  

Olsim quickly brushed off Mezabarba’s proclamations.  

If the match stays its feet, then it will be playing right into Olsim’s strength, which is striking. Aside from her wushu background with Team Lakay, the 24 year old has also trained with the national kickboxing team.  

“Let’s see if she can do everything she just said. All I know is that this fight won’t be easy – let’s just see who gets knocked out or submitted,” Olsim responded.  

“I’m 100 percent comfortable if this match stays on the feet because I’ve been doing this for a long time, too. We’re training well, so I’ll be ready for her.”  

While Mezabarba promised to blitz Olsim on the feet, the Filipina believes that her opponent will still mix things up, especially if things get rough.  

When that happens, Olsim is confident that she’s prepared for whatever Mezabarba throws her way, whether it turns into a wrestling battle or an all-out grappling game on the ground.  

“Based on her last fight, she loves to strike and mix it up with takedowns. I don’t know what her approach will be against me, but I’ll be preparing for her wrestling,” Olsim said.  

“I’ve been seeing that she’s been pursuing her takedowns, so I’ll have to work on that. But at the end of the day, it will all boil down to our striking.”
