International Master Michael Concio, Jr. drew with Aditya Bagus Arfan of Indonesia to capture the Hanoi IM Chess Tournament in Vietnam Sunday.

Concio, 17, split the point after 80 moves of a Caro-Kann Defense to finish unbeaten with seven points on five victories and four draws in the nine-round tournament.
The feat earned him a whopping 121.2 FIDE rating points, hiking his rating from 2211 to 2380 including some of the points he previously gained in other FIDE-sanctioned events coming into the tournament that was held after the 31st Southeast Asian Games also in Hanoi.
IM Daniel Quizon, for his part, ended up fourth in the concurrent Grandmaster tournament with five points to show.
Like Concio, the 18-year-old Quizon also acquired some FIDE rating points by improving from 2384 to 2420.
The promising young duo will try to join more tournaments to pursue their GM dreams including the Dubai Open in August.
“The goal is for them to become a GM,” said FIDE Master Abelgas, the coach of Concio and Dizon who along with GM Darwin Laylo accompanied the two in the Hanoi tilt.
