Metro Manila remains at low risk from Covid-19 despite seeing a higher reproduction number and positivity rate over the past week, the independent research group OCTA said in its latest monitoring.

Reproduction number refers to the average number of secondary infections by each infected individual, while positivity rate refers to the number of individuals who yielded positive results from among those who have been tested for Covid-19.

In an update posted on Twitter Monday, May 30, OCTA fellow Dr. Guido David said that Metro Manila’s reproduction number has increased from 1.02 to 1.08.

The region’s positivity rate also increased from 1.2 percent to 1.4 percent over an average of 11,047 tests per day.

Moreover, Metro Manila’s hospital care utilization rate slightly rose from 22 percent to 23 percent.

“An uptick in cases is observed in the NCR (National Capital Region) but the rate of increase in new Covid cases is very slow at this time,” David pointed out.

He said that the daily average of new Covid-19 cases in Metro Manila has increased by 2 percent from 72 for the May 16 to 22 monitoring period, to 74 for the period May 23 to 29.

Meanwhile, Metro Manila’s one-week average daily attack rate has slightly increased from 0.51 to 0.52 but is still less than 1.

Despite the uptick in cases, David said that “overall, NCR remained at low risk” from Covid infections at this time.
