Light to heavy rains persist in Visayas, Mindanao due to LPA

The low pressure area (LPA) near Surigao del Sur will continue to bring light to heavy rains over Visayas and Mindanao in the next 24 hours, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said on Monday afternoon, May 30.
PAGASA estimated the location of the LPA at 225 kilometers east of Hinatuan, Surigao del Sur as of 3 p.m.
Although the weather disturbance is less likely to develop into a tropical depression in the next 24 hours, PAGASA advised those in Visayas and Mindanao to remain vigilant against possible flash floods or landslides due to light to heavy rains brought by the LPA.
Moderate to heavy rains may prevail over Caraga and Eastern Visayas, while light to moderate with occasional heavy rains may affect Central Visayas and the rest of Mindanao.
“Under these conditions, scattered flooding and rain-induced landslides are likely, especially in areas that are highly or very highly susceptible to these hazards as identified in hazard maps and in areas with significant antecedent rainfall,” PAGASA said.
Meanwhile, Metro Manila and the rest of the country will have partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers caused by localized thunderstorms.
PAGASA also advised the public to remain vigilant against possible flash floods or landslides during severe thunderstorms, which are often associated with bursts of heavy rainfall, lightning, thunder, gusty winds, and sometimes hail.
Moreover, Luzon and Visayas will have light to moderate winds, while its coastal waters will be moderate.
Light to moderate winds are also expected to prevail over Mindanao, while its coastal waters will be slight to moderate.
