CEBU CITY – New infections are going down but this city will not end the month without new Covid-19 fatalities.
The Emergency Operations Center (EOC) reported Monday, May 30, that two elderlies were the latest to succumb to Covid-19. Overall, this city has logged 54,883 Covid-19 cases with 1,704 deaths.
City Councilor Joel Garganera, chief of the EOC, said one of this month’s Covid-19 fatalities was a 57-year-old unvaccinated individual. “The second one has co-morbidities, a senior citizen, 79-years-old thus very vulnerable,” said Garganera.
Garganera once again reminded the public to get vaccinated against Covid-19. “We should be vaccinated and received the booster,” Garganera said.
As of May 29, there are only 29 active Covid-19 cases here.
Still, residents, including the vaccinated, should not be complacent despite the city’s improved Covid-19 situation, Garganera said. “Even if we are vaccinated, we still need to follow minimum health protocols especially if we have vulnerable people at home.”
Records at the City Health Department showed that this city has already vaccinated a total of 845,140 individuals – 696,613 had received their first dose while 657,782 have taken two doses.
A total of 142,381 have received their first booster shot while 2,113 have been inoculated with the second booster shot.
For the 12 to 17-year-old bracket, 70,730 have received their first dose and 62,415 for the second dose.
For the five-11-year-old age bracket, first doses have been administered on 27,666 children while 18,619 have received their two doses of Covid-19 vaccine.
