UP awaits MRI result as CJ Cansino suffers bone bruise, minimal swelling

University of the Philippines holds its breath as the second seed team awaits the full diagnosis of swingman CJ Cansino.

Cansino was stretchered out of the third quarter after a bad fall in collision with Chris Koon during the Fighting Maroons' 84-83 win over reigning champions Ateneo Blue Eagles last May 1 to cap off the elimination round of the UAAP Season 84 men's basketball tournament at the Mall of Asia Arena.

The 6-foot-2 Cansino, however, seemed to be fine after returning to UP's bench without any support.

Bo Perasol, UP men's basketball program director and former head coach, revealed that Cansino had sustained "bone bruising and minimal/manageable swelling on the knee."

Cansino was able to participate in their movement drills and more updates have yet to be revealed after practice.

"His ability to practice or play will be decided upon by our medical team and coaching staff," said Perasol when contacted by the Manila Bulletin Tuesday, May 3. "We are still awaiting the official reading of the MRI."

Cansino averaged 9.31 points, 3.77 rebounds, and 1.08 assists in 13 games during the elimination round. He also shot 49.06 percent from the two-point range.

The Maroons, holding a twice-to-beat advantage, face third-ranked De La Salle Green Archers in their 2 p.m. encounter Wednesday, May 4.
