Senate fences off storage area for certificates of canvass, other poll documents
The Senate is ready to receive certificates of canvass and other documents for the canvassing of votes for the May 9, 2022 presidential and vice presidential elections.
Senate personnel have put up fences around the Recto Room on the second floor of the Senate complex for ballot boxes, which will contain the certificates of canvass.
At the basement, fences were also installed for the protection of boxes containing election returns.
Once these election documents are deposited, no one can touch them until they are carried to Congress where the Senate and the House of Representatives will hold a joint session and convene a National Board of Canvassers that will canvass the votes for the presidential and vice presidential elections.
According to the office of Senate Secretary Myra Villarica, the Senate leadership has directed a 24/7 live-streaming on YouTube of the arrival and storage of all election documents.
Retired General Rene Samonte, head of the Office of the Senate Sergeant at Arms (OSAA), said he and Villarica are coordinating with their counterpart in the Lower House in securing the election documents for the canvassing and proclamation of the winners for the top two positions in the land.
