Rains persist in Mindanao due to to ITCZ, LPA

Residents of Caraga, Davao Region, and SOCCSKSARGEN may experience cloudy skies with scattered rain showers and thunderstorms in the next 24 hours due to the intertropical convergence zone (ITCZ) and the low pressure area (LPA), the state weather bureau said on Tuesday, May 3.

“Patuloy na nakakaapekto ang ITCZ sa Mindanao. ang LPA na ating binabantayan ay hindi umalis sa kanyang kinalalagyan. Malapit pa rin ito sa bandang Mindanao (ITCZ continues to affect Mindanao. Meanwhile, the LPA off Mindanao remains almost stationary),” said PAGASA weather specialist Aldczar Aurelio.

The LPA was last spotted 230 kilometers (km) east southeast of General Santos City. It remains less likely to further develop into a tropical cyclone, but it is expected to bring rains in Mindanao.

On the other hand, the frontal system, also known as the convergence of warm and cold winds from the northeast and southeast, is expected to bring cloudy skies with scattered rain showers and thunderstorms in Batanes and Babuyan Islands.

Individuals residing in the aforementioned areas were warned against possible flash floods and landslides due to moderate to at times heavy rains.

Meanwhile, partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers may prevail in Metro Manila and the rest of the country due to easterlies and localized thunderstorms.
