New K-pop girl group Le Sserafim debuts, sells nearly 177,000 copies of first album

New K-pop girl group Le Sserafim made their debut under Source Music on May 2 with the album “Fearless.”

The members of Le Sserafim are Kim Chaewon, Sakura, Kazuha, Huh Yunjin, Kim Garam and Hong Eunchae.

According to Korea’s Hanteo Chart, “Fearless” sold 176,861 copies on the first day of release on May 2 to place second overall on the daily album chart.

They are the first girl group to be launched through Hybe and Source Music. The name Le Sserafim is an anagram of the world “I’m fearless.”

“The name captures the group’s self-confidence and iron will as they go out into the world fearlessly and unwavering before the watchful eyes of the world. It is like an incantation to guarantee their success on the merit of their unbreakable poise and strength,” according to Source Music.

In addition, “Fearless” topped iTunes’ Top Albums chart in 13 countries and regions including the Philippines, Japan and Brazil, Source Music said.

The music video for “Fearless” has garnered 9.95 million views on YouTube in 19 hours since it was released on May 2.

During their press conference on May 2, Le Sserafim members talked about their debut.

"Since this is my third group to debut, it would be a lie if I said I was not pressured at all. I felt that I should showcase the better version of myself. But I believe this kind of pressure is helping me to grow, too. Just like the message of our debut track, 'Fearless,' our members focus on what we can do right now instead of being caught up in the judgments of others,” said Sakura, a former member IZ*ONE, according to the Korea Times.

Kazuha said, "After doing ballet for 15 years, I fell under the spell of K-pop and decided to become a K-pop singer. It is like a dream come true for me to team up with such great members."

Leader Kim Chae-won, who also came from IZ*ONE, said, "We have been receiving a lot of attention for being HYBE's first girl group, but we will try not to be swayed by others and walk our own path."

"I would say Le Sserafim is a group armed with authentic music and performance. It would be so wonderful to see people saying they want to be as confident as we are. We will endeavor to exert a positive impact on people through our genuine stories in our music,” said Hong Eunchae.
