Actor-politician Alfred Vargas, brother PM urge public to remain vigilant

Actor-Congressman Alfred Vargas (5th District, Quezon City) and his brother PM urged the public to be vigilant for threats to elections.

The Vargas brothers made the appeal after they received death threats days before election day, during a 15-minute press conference held at Anabels' Restaurant in Morato, Quezon City on Tuesday, May 3.

PM said that he received a box containing two pieces of bullets for M-16 rifles delivered at the Novaliches District Center on Monday, May 2, at 1:25 p.m.

"Makikitang dineliver and pakete ng rider eksakto 1:25 p.m. kahapon. Ito ay isang kahon na naka-address sa akin. Dalawang pirasong bala ng M16 ang laman. Maliwanag na ang intensyon ng nagpadala ay para takutin kami at ang aming pamilya," said PM, who is running for Congress in the 5th District of Quezon City.

Alfred also encouraged the public to stand together to protect PM and District 5.

"Ngayon ay nahaharap kami sa ganitong klase ng death threat na tinaon sa dulo ng kampanya. Nananawagan kami sa aming pamilya, mga kaibigan, at supporters na samahan ninyo kaming maging vigilant sa lahat ng kasamaan, pananakot at pandaraya sa ginagawa ng ating mga kalaban ngayong eleksyon.

"Hindi po natin hayaaang dumanak ang karahasan lalo na't buhay ng aking pamilya ang nakataya sa usaping ito.

"Hahayaan ba ninyong sirain ang mga dayo nang ganon ganon na lang at pagharian ng kadiliman ang Novaliches? Tumayo tayo sa likod ni PM. Let us all stand together to protect PM and District 5," said Alfred.

PM said that he will not withdraw his candidacy in the election. "Hindi tayo magpapatinag kahit anong pananakot pa ang gawin nila sa atin."

After the Vargas brothers read their statements, they immediately left the room. They did not answer questions from the media upon the advice of their legal team, although they obliged for photos.
