LPA to bring scattered rain showers, thunderstorms over eastern, southern Mindanao

The low pressure area (LPA) east of the country has entered the Philippine area of responsibility (PAR) Sunday afternoon, May 29, and may bring scattered rain showers and thunderstorms over the eastern and southern portions of Mindanao in the next 24 hours.

The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) estimated the location of the LPA at 790 kilometers east-southeast of Davao City as of 3 p.m.

Cloudy skies with scattered rain showers and thunderstorms may prevail over Agusan del Norte, Agusan del Sur, Dinagat Islands, Surigao del Norte, Surigao del Sur, Davao de Oro, Davao del Norte, Davao del Sur, Davao Occidental, Davao Oriental, Cotabato, Sarangani, South Cotabato, and Sultan Kudarat.

PAGASA said the southwest monsoon or “habagat” may also bring scattered rain showers and thunderstorms over Palawan.

It warned against possible warned against possible flash floods or landslides due to moderate to heavy rains brought by the LPA and habagat.

Meanwhile, Metro Manila and the rest of the country will have partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms, mostly in the afternoon or evening.

Flash floods or landslides are also possible during severe thunderstorms, PAGASA warned.
