UST hands Ateneo first loss in beach volley

University of Santo Tomas' duo of Efraem Dimaculangan and Rancel Varga bested Ateneo's Abai Llenos and Amil Pacinio with a 21-14, 21-19 win in the UAAP Season 84 men's beach volleyball Saturday, May 28.

Aside from handing the Blue Eagles their first defeat, the Tiger Spikers also eked out a 21-19, 21-16 victory against Daniel Nicolas and Louis Gamban of the University of the Philippines Fighting Maroons en route to a 2-1 record.

"Siguro nakakuha kami ng dalawang panalo dahil na-lessen yung mga errors namin," said reigning Most Valuable Player Varga, who also hit the game-winning spike against Ateneo.

The Blue Eagles, who had a 3-1 slate, couldn't sustain momentum from their 21-16, 21-18 victory against the De La Salle Green Spikers in the morning session.

National University, for its part, emerged victorious for its second straight win courtesy of James Buytrago and Pol Salvador, 19-21, 21-19, 15-9.

De La Salle's Noel Kampton and Vince Maglinao vented their ire on Far Eastern University's Jelord Talisayan and Vincent Nadera with a 25-23, 19-21, 15-11 victory.

The Green Spikers, yielding a 3-1 record, outplayed Ned Pacquing and Francis Casas of the Adamson Soaring Falcons, 21-10, 21-19.

The Tamaraws and the Maroons currently hold a 1-2 and 1-3 records, respectively, while the Falcons remained winless in three games.
