Slight increase in Covid-19 admissions manageable, says group of private hospitals

A group of private hospitals in the country on Saturday, May 28, said a “slight” increase in hospital admissions has been observed recently.

Dr. Jose Rene de Grano, president of the Private Hospitals Association of the Philippines, Inc. (PHAPi), said the recent increase of admissions in private hospitals is still “manageable.”

“Sa ngayon po, actually mayroong slight increase po sa mga admissions pero manageable pa naman po so far ang ating mga private hospitals (Currently, we actually have a slight increase in admissions but it is manageable for private hospitals so far),” he said during a “Laging Handa” briefing.

Private hospitals, he said, are not worried about the slight increase as the symptomatic patients who were hospitalized are not suffering from severe Covid-19.

A slight increase in Covid-19 cases has been recently observed in the country, based on the weekly case update of the Department of Health (DOH).

From May 9 to 15, 1,118 Covid-19 cases were recorded. But, an increase was noted during the period of May 16 to 22 wherein 1,214 new infections were logged—registering a 9.9 percent increase.

Health authorities have been closely monitoring the country's Covid-19 situation following the recent detection of Omicron subvariants BA.2.12, BA.2.12.1, and BA.4, which are said to be more transmissible than the original Omicron variant.
