Pinoys are talking about 'Stranger Things' 4 because of this

Some Filipinos have been dissecting a scene from the first episode of "Stranger Things" Season 4 Vol. 1.

In it, main show character Eddie Munson, portrayed by Joseph Quinn, is seen reading a “Newsweek” magazine.

The cover has a headline that read: “Showdown: The Last Act in Manila.”

It also shows a picture of a man who looks like former President Ferdinand Marcos Sr.

The matter was highlighted in a Facebook post of bloggers Paul and Ica Cheng.

They shared: "The Marcoses are in a Netflix show (again)."

"The first episode of Stranger Things Season 4 Vol. 1 features a scene in Hawkins' high school cafeteria, where a student is reading an article about 'Dungeons & Dragons' from a Newsweek magazine."

"As the camera pans around, it shows dictator Ferdinand Marcos Sr. on the front cover with the words: 'SHOWDOWN The Last Act in Manila' printed on it."

"A quick google search confirms that the March 1986 Newsweek issue, really does have the same caption, albeit a different photo of the ousted dictator.

"The Marcoses were also mentioned in the latest season of Netflix's 'The Crown' where the Royal family talk about former first lady, Imelda Marcos' 'shoe/shell collection'."

In the comment section, an online user uploaded the photo of the original cover of the March 1986 magazine bearing the same headline, with a real image of the former President.

"actual issue for reference," the caption read.

Netizen related: "Ang timeline kasi ng stranger things is nasa 1980s kaya ganyan yung laman ng magazine nila sa pagkakaalam ko rin 1986 yan scene nayan kakapanuod ko lang kagabi."

Another echoed the same, writing: "ang timeframe ng stranger things is 1980s dba if i’m not mistaken. so typically they will highlight things that happened in that era and the fact that it was filmed way before election time or even campaign season only means there is no connection at all. i don’t get it why make such a big deal out of a small detail."

One said: "This season of Stranger Things was probably filmed during a much earlier time, way before Philippine elections happened. Talk about timing. Lol."
