The Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG)-Region 1 conducted a series of training on Local Economic Development for local government units (LED4LGUs) to aid seven localities boost their economy amid the adverse effects of the Covid-19 pandemic.
Through the Local Government Capability Development Division (LGCDD), the towns of Narvacan, Sta. Cruz and Tagudin in Ilocos Sur and municipalities of Asingan, Bani, Bugallon and Sual in Pangasinan benefited from the LED4LGUs training.
DILG Region 1 Director Julie J. Daquioag said that the LGUs can do more in terms of economic recovery especially in the pandemic years and the training will help them expand their strategies.
"Rebuilding the pandemic-battered economy has placed LGUs in a position to make the best use of resources readily available for them to bankroll their recovery programs and help revive enterprises in their localities hardest hit by the global crisis," Daquioag said.
She added that the said training can also help the LGUs attract potential sustainable investments by creating a competitive local environment.
"For such potentials to be realized, LGUs must act deliberately, consistently and strategically and figure out how to compete with available meager resources," she noted.
The participants in the series of training include the local chief executives (LCE), planning and development officers, local treasurers, local economic and investment promotions officer (LEIPOs), Sangguniang Bayan (SB) members, local budget officers and representatives from the business sector.
Four DILG provincial offices along with the field officers of the target LGUs and the local resource institute (LRI) partners also attended the activity as participants. (Chito A. Chavez)
