'Still going strong': Couples assure Mayor Vico of their marriage vows

Following Pasig City Mayor Vico Sotto's amusing announcement of the 400th marriage he has officiated since he came into office, some married couples assured him of their marriage status.

On Thursday, May 26, Sotto made a witty remark on his Twitter account, saying: "I just officiated the wedding of my 400th couple! Sa unang 399, sana hindi pa kayo naghihiwalay (Hopefully, the first 399 couples have not yet broken up)".

Sotto shared some of the reactions on his Instagram stories.

Instagram user @shaarliynmein said she and her husband were one of the first couples that Sotto officiated.

"So far, going stronger and better pa naman mayor, (So far, we're going stronger and better, Mayor Vico)," the user said.

Another user, @camsrustia, said: "Mahigpit pa yung samin Mayor Vico (We remain tight and committed, Mayor Vico)".

Coach Paul Senogat, who ran for a council seat but lost in this year's elections, also shared the status of his parents' marriage.

"Di ko alam kung pang ilan sila...pero so far Mayor Vico, okay sila Papa at wifey niya. Going strong hehe he (I don't know which number they are, but so far, Mayor Vico, Papa and his wife are okay. Going strong)," Senogat quipped.

During Valentines' Day this year, Feb. 14, the local government conducted a "kasalang bayan" or mass wedding at the Rave Pavillion.

Sotto officiated the marriage vows of 13 couples.

Before the pandemic, a Christmas-season kasalang bayan was also held at the Pasig City Sports Complex on Dec. 20, 2019.

Around 50 couples wedded that day, presided by the mayor.

Couples residing in Pasig City who wish to also be officiated by the mayor may first acquire their marriage licenses from the city’s Local Civil Registry (LCR).

When the application is accomplished, couples may contact the Office of the Mayor in order to schedule the civil marriage ceremony.
