Scattered rains, thunderstorms over Davao Region due to ITCZ; isolated rain showers over rest of PH

The intertropical convergence zone (ITCZ), an area where winds from the northern and southern hemispheres converge that brings cloudiness and rains, will prevail over Davao Region in the next 24 hours, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said on Wednesday afternoon, May 25.

PAGASA warned against possible flash floods or landslides due to moderate to heavy rains.

Meanwhile, Metro Manila and the rest of the country will have partly cloudy to cloudy skies with still a possibility of isolated afternoon or evening rain showers because of localized thunderstorms.

PAGASA also advised the public to stay vigilant as sudden heavy rains during severe thunderstorms may trigger flash floods or landslides in vulnerable areas.

This weather scenario may persist until Friday, May 27.

By Saturday until Sunday, May 28 to 29, PAGASA weather specialist Benison Estareja said the western section of Luzon may experience scattered rain showers and thunderstorms due to the southwest monsoon or “habagat.”

He said the rest of the country, including Metro Manila, will have “generally fair” weather with chances of isolated rain showers and thunderstorms in the afternoon or evening.

Estareja also noted that a low pressure area may form along the ITCZ, but tropical cyclone development remains less likely in the next five days.
