QCPD commemorates 38th death anniversary of Gen. Karingal

The Quezon City Police District (QCPD) commemorated on Tuesday, May 24, the 38th death anniversary of its former chief, Maj. Gen. Tomas B. Karingal.

The commemoration started with a Mass at the Sacred Heart of Jesus Chapel at around 8 a. m., followed by the laying of wreaths in front of the late general’s monument in the QCPD headquarters.

The first wreath was offered by the officers and members of the QCPD while the second wreath was from the commanders of the 16 stations of the police district. The last wreath was offered the relatives of the late general.

The QCPD said that based on their records, Gen. Karingal became a constabulary officer in Ilocos and Nueva Ecija after graduating from the Philippine Military Academy (PMA).

He served as an undercover and intelligence officer fighting the rebels in Bataan, Corregidor and Manila.

He became a provincial commander of Iloilo and Batangas before he retired on May 19, 1964.

He was immediately recalled to duty on May 20, 1964 as the commanding officer of the Law Enforcement Command of the Bureau of Customs Police.

Karingal became the QCPD chief from July 5, 1967 to December 19, 1975 by virtue of presidential appointment under the late former President Ferdinand Marcos.

He was assassinated on May 24,1984 on Scout Borromeo Street in Quezon City.

Brig. Gen. Remus Medina, the current QCPD chief, reminded his personnel to keep Gen. Karingal’s memory alive by fulfilling their duties.

The ceremony ended with a simple breakfast with the family and relatives of the late general.
