Lady diver saved after losing consciousness in scuba accident

A female diver was rescued after losing consciousness in a scuba diving accident at Tubbataha Reef in Palawan, the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) reported Wednesday, May 25.

In a press statement, the PCG said the Filipina diver, whose identity was not disclosed, was scuba diving at Tubbataha Reef last May 22 when she discovered that her underwater device “failed to produce compressed air which caused her to panic. “

The diver was at 15 to 18 meters underwater and “lost consciousness.”

A ship guest onboard the liveaboard boat MY Narayana rescued the diver and conducted cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) on the victim until she gained consciousness.

However, upon gaining her senses, the victim experienced difficulty in breathing, dizziness, and headache.

The BRP Suluan (MRRV-4406) then responded to the boat’s distress call to attend to the victim, and a medical team from the PCG District Palawan proceeded to MY Narayana in the vicinity waters off Inagawan, Palawan, for a medical evacuation.

The diver was eventually brought to the Port of Puerto Princesa City, then to the nearest hospital for a proper medical care.
