DepEd on the conduct of in-person graduation, EOSY rites: Comply with the existing protocols

Officials of the Department of Education (DepEd) on Wednesday, May 25, reminded schools as well as various stakeholders to ensure that the existing protocols are strictly complied with during the conduct of in-person end-of-school-year (EOSY) rites for the school year (SY) 2021-2022.

DepEd Assistant Secretary Field Operations Malcolm Garma, in a DZBB interview, explained that when it comes to the conduct of EOSY this school year, the most important consideration is the safety and welfare of school officials and teachers, parents, and students alike.

“Ang kabuuang mensahe ng ating (The central message of our) issuance , pinapayagan ang (we allow) face-to-face as long as they will comply with the existing protocols,” Garma said.

In a separate interview over DZRH, DepEd Undersecretary for Curriculum and Instruction Diosdado San Antonio explained that the week of June 24, 2022, is the recommended start of holding EOSY --- including graduation and other related activities.

However, San Antonio said that this is only applicable to public schools. Most private schools, he explained, may hold graduation and other EOSY activities earlier since they have a “flexible” school calendar.

Meanwhile, San Antonio said that schools may also be allowed to make the necessary adjustments when it comes to the conduct of graduation and EOSY rites. “Pwedeng hati-hati ang graduation kung marami ang lalahok at maliit ang space (They can hold the graduation in batches if there are many participants and if the space is small),” he added.

San Antonio said that DepEd has already issued a directive allowing face-to-face graduation in areas under Alert Levels 1 and 2 as long as the local government unit (LGU) and parents of the participating learners gave their permission.
