After SEAG bronze, Olsim prepares for MMA comeback

There's no stopping Jenelyn Olsim after a grueling schedule during the 31st Southeast Asian Games.

After representing the vovinam team and winning bronze medal in Hanoi, Vietnam, the Team Lakay stalwart resumes regular training to prepare for a comeback in the Circle.

The 25-year-old Olsim is set to face Brazilian contender Julie Mezabarba in ONE 158: Pacio vs Brooks headlined by the strawweight title defense of teammate Joshua Pacio and top-ranked Jarred Brooks on June 3.

"My training for ONE Championship and for the SEA Games have been continuous. I just need to make small adjustments and additional training so that I can incorporate Vovinam into my MMA training," Olsim said.

Team Lakay bannered the country in the SEA Games both in kickboxing and vovinam, a traditional martial art of Vietnam.

This was also the first time that the Philippines has sent representatives for vovinam.

In its debut, the vovinam team has collected one bronze from Olsim and a silver from Carlo Von Buminaang, also of Team Lakay.

The kickboxing squad hauled eight medals highlighted by two gold mints by Gina Iniong-Araos, former No. 5 strawweight in ONE, and Jean Claude Saclag.

Inspired by her teammates' victories, Olsim is raring to return to the atomweight scene in ONE.

"I’m really happy because I continue to receive these blessings. Every time I fight, I take it as a sign of gratitude," said Olsim, who holds a 5-3 record.

"The more medals my teammates collect, the more I get inspired and motivated to get the win at ONE 158."

Olsim and Pacio are the latest Filipinos set to return in the Singapore-based promotion but more bouts have yet to be announced.
