Comelec tells teachers: Claim your honorarium for poll-related duties now

The Commission on Elections (Comelec) reminded teachers who rendered election duties to get their honorarium before the scheduled deadline lapses.

In a press briefing Tuesday, May 24, Director Teopisto Elnas, Comelec deputy director for operations, said the status of the payment of honorarium to members of electoral boards (EBs) stands at 90 percent.

He said EBs could get their honoraria to the respective office of their election officers.

“Please, if you have time, claim your honorarium. The law only gives Comelec 15 days from election day to settle all obligations as far as the payment of honorarium is concerned,” Elnas said.

The election was held on May 9 while a special election was conducted in Tubaran, Lanao del Sur on May 24.

Nonetheless, Elnas said the Comelec will still accommodate members of EBs who have yet to get their honorarium past the deadline until such time that the payment status is 100 percent completed.

The payment, however, covers the basic honoraria for the work done on the election day itself.

The Comelec has yet to decide when it will give the additional honoraria worth P2,000 for teachers who served beyond the usual working hours.

“It was already approved. It's just a matter of us determining the exact number and the targeted people who will receive the additional honoraria,” said Director John Rex Laudiangco, Comelec acting spokesperson.
