After first round sweep, NU to regroup, recharge with one-week break

Even a team that swept seven straight matches needs a rest after a grueling schedule.

The National University Lady Bulldogs are set to maximize a week of break from volleyball after ending their first round campaign in UAAP Season 84 on a high note.

NU remained undefeated in seven straight games with matches being played every other day on Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday.

"Napakahalaga rin nito sa amin kasi una 'yong recovery and kailangan di namin mag-regroup muna," said Lady Bulldogs head coach Karl Dimaculangan.

"Tignan namin kung ano 'yong mga kailangan i-improve as a team and pati 'yong sa mga nagiging next games namin. Pati kalaban namin kailangan namin so parang back to basic ulit."

The sweep marks NU's best finish in the first round after achieving a 6-1 record in Seasons 76 and 80.

Team captain Princess Robles, who is the top-ranked best spiker with 38.64 success rate in attacking, echoed Dimaculangan's sentiments and said it will be a chance for her teammates to assess themselves.

"Yes, malaking bagay po siya kasi doon namin maayos ulit and maayos namin ulit 'yong galaw namin sa loob ng court. Kung ano 'yong kulang namin, doon namin ulit magagawa," said Robles, who is also ranked No. 9 in the scoring department with 79 overall points.

NU libero Jen Nierva, for her part, reminded her teammates that the second round should start from scratch and that there is no room for complacency despite a flawless 7-0 record.

Nierva, third-ranked in digging and the best receiver so far, pointed out that other teams are most likely hungry to return and raring to defeat them in the second round.

"Nakita nila paano kami maglaro so pagalingan ito sa second round. Talagang kailangan mas double time din kami paano mag-prepare for the second round," said Nierva.

UAAP volleyball action returns at the Mall of Asia Arena on Thursday, May 26.
