Wage hike in Western Visayas takes effect June 5

ILOILO CITY – Good news for workers in Western Visayas region.

The Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) is set to implement a salary hike for workers in the private sectors, including kasambahays, starting June 5.

“It is good news for the daily wage earners, the kasambahays and their families,” said Atty. Sixto Rodriguez Jr., DOLE-Region 6 director.

According to DOLE-Region 6, it had received a confirmation letter from Maria Criselda Sy, executive director of the National Wages and Productivity Commission (NWPC), that the wage orders have been approved and affirmed.

The looming increase in salary for private sector workers was in response to a petition filed by Fishta Union of Employees for Reforms Through Solidarity Actions (FUERSA-SUPER) of Negros Occidental last March 14.

The business group reacted to the petition, saying it was wrong timing and that businesses were still trying to recover from the pandemic, and typhoon, among other things.

The salary increase will be implemented in Aklan, Antique, Capiz, Guimaras, Iloilo, and Negros Occidental provinces as well as the highly urbanized cities of Iloilo and Bacolod.

For the non-agriculture sector with more than 10 workers, the new daily rate will be P450 from the current rate of P395.

For the non-agriculture sector with less than 10 workers, the new daily rate will be P420 from the current rate of P310.

Agricultural workers will start receiving P410 per day from the current rate of P310.

For the kasambahays, the new monthly rate will be P4,500.
