National University Pep Squad has set sights on another three-peat and a seventh overall title when the UAAP Season 84 cheerdance competition kicks off today at the Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay City.

With health and safety protocols in place, the cheerdance competition will return to the collegiate scene after a two-year lull due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
The UAAP board decided to limit the performance down to three minutes and members of the participating pep squads to 15.
The decision to include the participation of the drumlines has yet to be announced by the board at press time after respective schools appealed through a joint statement last May 19.
Despite several adjustments and limitations, NU Pep Squad head coach Ghicka Bernabe instilled a laser-sight focus in her wards to keep their goal intact.
"Kung ano po 'yong hinihingi sa amin though mahirap siya or kung ano 'yong puwede, nag-try kami ng best option para ibigay sa kids namin," said Bernabe. "Hindi naman po nag-stop 'yong training namin during the pandemic. We had our virtual training and nakabalik po kami noong February or March.
"Nag-double time po kami kasi hindi naman ganon kadali maibalik 'yong stamina ng kids," added the six-time UAAP champion coach.
With the three-peat in sight, since bagging the UAAP crown in 2018, Bernabe is firm that the members are "physically, mentally, and emotionally" prepared for the unique mid-season.
NU Pep Squad, which will perform second, has won six UAAP titles in the past seven seasons with Adamson Pep Squad spoiling the run in 2017.
NU placed fifth at that time but overcame a dismal season after back-to-back titles in 2018 and 2019 until the Covid-19 pandemic put a stop to the sporting field.
NU Pep Squad had dethroned University of the Philippines Pep Squad beginning 2013 which marked an end of an era for the State U, which bagged five titles, including a three-peat, in six seasons from 2007 to 2012.
UP Pep Squad and University of Santo Tomas Salinggawi Dance Troupe remain the winningest teams in UAAP cheerdance with eight championships.
The Ateneo Blue Eagles, formerly the Blue Babble Battalion, will perform first, UP Pep Squad will come third, and back-to-back runner-up Far Eastern Cheering Squad will execute fourth.
De La Salle University Animo Squad (fifth), Adamson Pep Squad (sixth), University of the East Pep Squad (seventh), and UST Salinggawi Dance Troupe (eighth) will follow suit in order.
