Locsin mourns passing of icon Susan Roces

Foreign Affairs Secretary Teodoro Locsin Jr. mourned the passing of Filipino film icon Susan Roces who died at the age of 80 on May 20.

In a tweet on Saturday, May 21, Locsin extended his condolences to Senator Grace Poe over her loss.

"To Grace Poe, Cousin, please accept my deepest sorrow over your loss; first your good father, now your mother," he said, referring to veteran actor Fernando Poe Jr. who died in 2004.

Poe announced her mother's death through a statement on Friday evening.

"With great sadness, we announce the loss of our beloved Jesusa Sonora Poe, whom many of you know as Susan Roces," Poe's official statement read.

"She passed away peacefully on a Friday evening, May 20, 2022, surrounded by love and warmth, with her daughter Grace, her nephews Joseph and Jeffrey, and many of her family and close friends," it added.

In his tweet, Locsin described Roces as brave and embodied everything graceful about the Filipino people.

"She embodied in life, and on-screen, everything graceful about our people without compromising on courage and integrity; she could fight, fiercely even; never without grace," he said.

In 2019, Locsin explained that he is related to the veteran actress because she was a Locsin. He said this after a netizen asked how he was related to Senator Poe.

"That's bastos (rude) and insensitive. She was adopted by Susan Roces—a Locsin," he said.

"In my family, adoption is better than just being accidentally conceived. We got it from the Roman emperors who adopted their heirs, never their sons, so they knew who they were passing on the power to," he added
