Vaccine makers yet to submit EUA application for Covid-19 boosters for children aged 5-11---FDA

The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) said that Covid-19 vaccine manufacturers have yet to submit their emergency use authorization (EUA) application for their respective vaccines to be used as booster shots for children under five to 11 years old.

“Sa ngayon po kasi wala pang nagaapply o natatanggap kahit anong application para sa booster dose na pang five to 11 years old. (So far, no one has applied or we have yet to receive any application for a booster dose for five to 11 years old),” said FDA Officer-in-Charge Oscar Gutierrez on Friday, May 20.

Once they receive an application, Gutierrez said they will analyze the given data for at least three weeks.

“Kung sakali man na meron mag apply, sa loob po ng tatlong linggo susubukan natin na ma evaluate agad (In case anyone applies, we will try to evaluate that within three weeks),” he said.

“Kakayanin po iyan kasi nagtutulungan naman kami dito lahat kasama po ng ating mga vaccine experts (We can do that because we all work together here as well as with our vaccine experts),” he added.

The US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) recommended the Covid-19 vaccine booster for children under this age bracket.

The national government started the implementation of Covid-19 vaccination among the said age group last Feb. 7.

The Department of Health (DOH) earlier said it is aiming to inoculate more than 15 million children aged five to 11. So far, 2.46 million kids aged five to 11 have been fully vaccinated, the DOH said.

Currently, fully vaccinated adults or 18 years old and above are eligible to get a booster shot.
