DND: Let love, reconciliation, social healing reign as Ramadan ends
The Department of National Defense (DND) celebrated the culmination of this year’s Ramadan – also called Eid al-Fitr – with Filipino Muslims on Monday, May 1, with a message of hope that love, reconciliation, and social healing eventually prevail especially with the coming elections.

“The observance of this year’s Eid al-Fitr this year is made more significant as the whole nation prepares for the ushering in of a new leadership. This is an appropriate time to promote the spirit of love, reconciliation and social healing among Filipinos of all faiths,” DND Secretary Delfin Lorenzana said in a statement.
Lorenzana, who will end his stint as the country’s top defense official in June, said he hopes the month-long reflection during Ramadan “will bring continuous journey to peace and prosperity” especially to the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM) and all Islam communities worldwide.
“Your One Defense Team commits to support any and all security endeavors that will promote a more harmonious life and better protection for Filipinos,” Lorenzana said.
“Peace to all and Eid Mubarak (Blessed festival)!” he added.
The Eid al-Fitr or the “Festival of Breaking of the Fast” marks the end of the holy month of Ramadan for all the Muslims around the world.
It occurred just as the country gears up for the conduct of the 2022 elections on May 9 where a new president, vice president, 12 of the 24-member Senate, and House of Representatives will be elected.
