Parañaque City City Mayor Edwin Olivarez has declared 15 barangays in the city as drug free and that only one community in the city remains to have a drug problem.
Olivarez made the announcement during the Monday regular flag raising ceremony held at the City Hall quadrangle and hosted by the City Veterinary Office.
The mayor thanked the barangay chairmen in the 15 communities for their success in combating the proliferation of illegal drugs in their areas.
Olivarez also thanked the 15 barangay chairmen for their continued coordination with the local police and the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) in helping them get rid of illegal drugs in their area and arrest all those involved in their trade.
He said the PDEA helped the city government a lot in intercepting illegal drugs transactions which usually happen along Macapagal Avenue near the Parañaque Integrated Terminal Exchange (PITX).
The mayor is challenging the barangay chairman of the remaining community with a drug problem to work hard in making the area drug-free.
Olivarez said he wants all the 16 communities in the city to be free from illegal drugs and that his dream is for Parañaque City to be declared as drug-free in Metro Manila.
