Rain showers to prevail in N. Luzon due to frontal system

The frontal system or the convergence of warm and cold winds from the northeast and southeast may bring cloudy skies with rains in extreme northern Luzon over the next 24-hour period, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said on Thursday, May 19.

“Patuloy na nakakaapekto ang frontal system sa extreme northern Luzon. Ito ‘yung pagsalubong ng malamig at mainit na hangin. Sa pagitan ng malamig at mainit na hangin ay nagkakaroon ng makapal na ulap lalo na ang thunderstorm (The frontal system continues to affect extreme northern Luzon. This is the convergence of warm and cold winds. Between the cold and hot winds, thick clouds form, including thunderstorms) ,” said PAGASA weather specialist Aldczar Aurelio.

Due to this weather system, residents of Batanes, Babuyan Islands, and Ilocos Norte may experience rain showers and thunderstorms in the next 24-hour period. They were likewise warned against possible flash floods or landslides due to moderate to at times heavy rains.

Meanwhile, cloudy skies with light to moderate to at times heavy rains in the afternoon or evening may prevail over the rest of Luzon, including Metro Manila.

Visayas and Mindanao, on the other hand, may experience generally fair weather with a slight chance of isolated rains due to localized thunderstorms.

No weather disturbance is expected to neither develop in the Philippine area of responsibility (PAR) nor affect the country within the forecast period, Aurelio added.
