DOH monitoring 7 Metro Manila areas with uptick in Covid-19 cases

The Department of Health (DOH) said it is currently monitoring seven areas in Metro Manila after they showed an uptick in Covid-19 cases in recent weeks.

“Dito sa NCR meron ilang areas na binabantayan natin na may positive growth din sa kaso (Here in the NCR, there are some areas that we are monitoring that have logged a positive growth in cases),” said DOH Undersecretary Maria Rosario Vergeire.

One of the areas is Pasig City wherein it recorded “an increase of 17 cases in the recent two weeks with 69 total active cases,” the DOH said. Pasig City, however, remains under the low risk case classification, the DOH added.

“Six other areas showed positive growth in cases in the recent one week. These are Muntinlupa, Pasay, Quezon City, Caloocan, Marikina, and Pateros,” the DOH said.

The DOH stressed that the observed increase in cases is not yet significant as of this time.

“But again it does not translate to a significant rise in cases or the number of admission overwhelming our hospitals,” said Vergeire.

Amid this development, the DOH said that Metro Manila is still under low-risk case classification.

“All areas in NCR still maintain low risk average daily attack rates and have less than 180 active cases,” the DOH said.

The reported rise in cases comes after the DOH announced a local transmission of the more transmissible coronavirus Omicron subvariant BA.2.12.1.

The DOH said that the Omicron subvariant BA.2.12.1 has been detected in Metro Manila, Western Visayas, and Puerto Princesa City in Palawan.
