Top officials invited to attend proclamation of winning senators

President Duterte and other top ranking officials have been invited by the Commission on Elections (Comelec) to attend the proclamation of the 12 winning senators in the 2022 polls on Wednesday, May 18.

In a press briefing on Tuesday, Comelec Commissioner George Garcia said the invitation was sent to the Chief Executive that same day.

He said also invited to attend are the Vice President Leni Robredo, Senate President Tito Sotto, Speaker of the House Lord Alan Velasco, and Chief Justice Alexander Gesmundo.

"Our arrangement here may change in the event that these personalities will be present by tomorrow...we need to observe protocols when top officials are present," Garcia said.

Asked if it's the first time that top officials have been invited to attend the proclamation, he replied: "As far as I can recall."

Garcia added that the top officials were invited as "courtesy and the fact that it signifies a peaceful transition of power also."

He said the said officials have yet to confirm their attendance.

The proclamation of the 12 winning senators will be held at the Philippine International Convention Center Forum Tent in Pasay City at 4 p.m.
