Southwesterly surface wind flow brings scattered rains, thunderstorms over Metro Manila, parts of western Luzon

Expect scattered rain showers and thunderstorms over Metro Manila and other parts of western Luzon in the next 24 hours due to the prevalence of the southwesterly surface wind flow, according to the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA).

In its weather bulletin on Tuesday afternoon, May 17, PAGASA said that cloudy skies with scattered rain showers and thunderstorms will affect Metro Manila, Cavite, Laguna, Batangas, Rizal, Quezon, Bataan, Pampanga, Zambales, Bulacan, Ilocos Sur, La Union, and Pangasinan.

The frontal system will also bring cloudy skies and rains over Batanes, Babuyan Islands, and Ilocos Norte.

PAGASA advised those in areas affected by the southwesterly surface wind flow and frontal system to stay vigilant against possible flash floods or landslides due to the occurrence of moderate to heavy rains.

Meanwhile, the rest of the country will continue to experience hot and humid morning with chances of isolated rain showers or thunderstorms in the afternoon or evening.

PAGASA also warned against severe thunderstorms that may cause flash floods or landslides in vulnerable areas.

Severe thunderstorms are often associated with bursts of heavy rainfall, lightning, thunder, gusty winds, and sometimes hail.
