Namfrel to help PPCRV in validating poll returns

The National Citizens’ Movement for Free Elections (Namfrel) will be helping the church-backed poll watchdog Parish Pastoral Council for Responsible Voting (PPCRV) in validating election returns (ERs).

PPCRV board of trustee Dr. William Yu confirmed this in a press briefing held on Tuesday, May 17. Yu disclosed that Namfrel will be in charge of validating over 200 ERs.

“ 437 , , there is a subset 240 which we found a few days back. We sent it to Namfrel and offered to help look for those ERs,” said Yu, adding that the PPCRV is expecting that more ERs will be needing revalidation as the encoding continues.

“As we encode more, there will be more of these cases. It’s not yet done, I wouldn’t say is not an issue or an issue,” said Yu.

“Just to give you an example of certain cases that we have found, there are two candidate Bellos, right? Vice President and Senator. , an encoder encodes the wrong position, there are cases like that that slip through the quality assurance because probably the verifier was already tired. There are cases where the ink is not smooth, a number like six look like a number of five,” he furthered.

PPCRV’s data showed that as of Monday, May 16, a total of 54,412 physical ERs have already been fully encoded. Of this number, 53,644 matched the electronically-transmitted results, producing a match rate of 98.57 percent.
