Men's beach volleyball team secures semis spot

The men’s beach volleyball team sustained its fiery form after scoring a sweep against Cambodia in the 31st Southeast Asian Games at the Tuan Chau Beach, Quang Ninh in Vietnam on Tuesday, May 17.

The pair of Jude Garcia and Krung Arbasto defeated Chuk Sophea and Thy Menghuong, 21-15, 21-16 while Ranran Abdilla and Jaron Requinton beat Oem Narit and Som Samith, 21-14, 21-14 to assure itself a spot for the semifinals.

The PH bets will next face host Vietnam in the 3 p.m. showdown today which will determine the top seed in their pool.

Not as fortunate was their women's counterparts who were handed their first taste of defeat in the tournament by last edition's silver medalists Indonesia, 2-1.

Jovelyn Gonzaga and Dij Rodriguez took down Nur Atika and Sari, 21-13, 21-19 but the duo of Sisi Rondina and Bernadette Pons got swept 21-11, 21-11 by Dhita nd Putu.

The Filipinas slid down to a 2-1 standing together with Indonesia and Vietnam. The PH bets battles the hosts in a crucial encounter tomorrow at 9 a.m.
