Isleta, Geriane deliver silver-bronze finish in 100m backstroke

Filipina tankers Chloe Isleta and Jessica Joy Geriane delivered a silver-bronze finish in the women's 100-meter backstroke event in the 31st Southeast Asian Games at the My Dinh Water Sports Palace Tuesday, May 17.

Isleta, who ruled the 200m backstroke to end the women's 29-year gold medal drought on Monday, May 16, clinched silver this time in the 100m counterpart and clocked one minute and 3.78 seconds, while Geriane, who also shattered the country's 50m backstroke record for silver, settled for bronze with a time of 1:03.86.

Indonesian swimmer Flairene Candrea Wonomiharjo won the gold medal and registered 1:03.36.

So far, the national swimming team tallied five medals with one gold, two silvers, and two bronzes courtesy of Isleta, Geriane, and Miranda Renner.

In men's action, Jonathan Sebastian Cook reached the final of the men's 200m backstroke but fell short against podium finishers Maximillian Wei Ang of Singapore, Bao Pham Thanh of host Vietnam, and Job Xi Jay Tan of Malaysia.

The same goes for Renner and Jasmine Alkhaldi in women's 50m butterfly after yielding to Jenjira Srisa-ard of Thailand, Ting Wen Quah and Jing Wen Quah of Singapore.

Jerard Dominic Jacinto and Jaden Christian Olson also failed in their men's 50m backstroke campaign.
