Comelec highlights highest voter turnout; canvass reports consistent in reaching 83.83% mark

As the canvassing of votes for senators and party-lists nears completion, the Commission on Elections (Comelec) on Tuesday, May 17, highlighted the highest voter turnout in the country and the consistent canvass reports reaching the 83.83 percent mark.

“We start with Canvass Report No. 1 it’s 83.64, for Canvass Report No. 2 our voter turnout is 84.81, for Canvass Report No.3 that’s 83.78 percent, Canvass Report No. 4 –83.05 percent, it’s the same with Canvass Report No. 5 and 6 so across the board. Our voter turnout is the highest ever and it is consistent reaching the 83.83 percent mark,” Comelec Acting Spokesperson John Rex C. Laudianco said during a press briefing.

So far, the Comelec en banc, sitting as the national board of canvassers (NBOC), canvassed 159 certificates of canvass (COCs) covering 66,715,110 registered voters where 55,408,244 voters actually cast their votes.

It has a voter turnout of 83.06 percent which is similar to Canvass Reports No. 4 and 5.

Only 14 COCs are yet to be canvassed by the NBOC as of May 16.

Laudiangco said the Canvass Report No.7 is now being prepared by the Comelec’s Audit and Tabulation groups.

The Comelec en banc is sitting as the NBOC for the canvassing of votes for senators and party-lists. Meanwhile, the House of Representatives will be sitting as NBOC for the canvassing of votes for the posts of president and vice-president.
