Water interruption averted in Iloilo City, three other towns

ILOILO CITY -- The water interruption that is supposed to start Monday, May 16, has been averted in Iloilo City as well as the towns of Leganes, Pavia, and Sta. Barbara.

This was after supplier FLO Water Resources Inc. reached a provisional agreement to continue supplying Metro Pacific Iloilo Water (MPIW), the joint venture between state-owned Metro Iloilo Water District (MIWD) and Metro Pacific Water (MPC), with water requirements.

“For now, there will be no water interruption,” said Iloilo City Mayor Jerry Treñas in a press conference Monday, May 16.

MPIW has earlier warned both residential and businesses consumers to store up water as there was supposed to be water rationing.

FLO Water Resources had earlier said it will stop its delivery of water supply after its 10-year agreement had expired. FLO Water delivers at least 20,000 cubic meters per day to MPIW.

Prime Water Infrastructure Corp. is also supplying MPIW and it takes care of the latter’s remaining 10,000 cubic meters additional requirements.

Treñas and Governor Arthur Defensor Jr. intervened and sat down with the management of FLO Water and MPIW last Sunday, May 15.

“Governor Defensor and I are worried about the possible impact, especially since the weather has been very hot,” Treñas said.

The interim agreement is good for six months and the price per cubic meter is P21.

“During the interim period, they will work out a new agreement as to the price. It can go up or it can go down,” Treñas added.
