Saso finishes 12th at Cognizant Founders Cup

Yuka Saso fired an eagle-aided four-under-par 68 but could only finish tied at 12th place in the Cognizant Founders Cup in Clifton, New Jersey Sunday (Monday in Manila).

The reigning US Women’s Open champion blasted eagle 3s on the second and 12th holes, then followed it up with a birdie on the par-4 13th before stumbling into back-to-back bogeys on the 16th and 17th.

But the Fil-Japanese held her composure to close out her campaign with a birdie for a four-round total of 279 following earlier rounds of 73, 68 and 70.

She finished 10 strokes behind eventual champion Minjee Lee.

Lee carded a 70 but managed to keep her lead en route to winning the title and the $450,000 (around P23.6 million) cash purse.

Saso, for her feat, pocketed $46,366 (around P2.4 million).

Bianca Pagdanganan, meanwhile, finished at joint 22nd after a last-round 70 for a 281 aggregate after earlier rounds of 66, 73 and 72.

She brought home $27,587 (around P1.4 million).

Dottie Ardina, for her part, struggled with a 74 for 288 at joint 64th, taking home a $6,805 (around P350,000) consolation prize.
