Marcos backs DepEd request for extra P3K allowance to poll workers

The Department of Education’s (DepEd) request to the Commission on Elections (Comelec) for a P3,000 allowance for poll workers who rendered services during the May 9 elections has been echoed by presumptive president Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr.

DepEd Secretary Leonor Briones, on May 12, sought from Comelec the distribution of a P3,000 allowance to teaching and non-teaching personnel who served as members of the electoral board for the national elections.

“Talaga namang pinahanga ninyo kami ng husto. Ang ipinakita ninyong pagmamalasakit at sakripisyo ang isa sa gagamitin naming inspirasyon ni Vice President-elect Inday Sara Duterte para paglingkuran ng maayos ang ating bansa (You impressed us. The concern and sacrifices you showed are inspirations to me and Vice President-elect Inday Sara Duterte to serve the country),” Marcos said in a press statement on Monday, May 16.

He added that any compensations, honorariums, and allowances should be distributed before May 24, citing Comelec Resolution (CR) 10727, Article II, which pertains to the composition of the electoral board.

Article II, Section 34 of CR 10727 details that honoraria and allowances must be paid within 15 days from the date of the election.

The UniTeam bet similarly lauded members of the Philippine National Police (PNP) and Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) who rendered duty during the elections.
