Father, son believed to have drowned in Mt. Province river found

CAMP DANGWA, Benguet – A father and his son who were believed to have drowned were found by rescuers the day after leaving their home to swim in the river in Banawel, Natonin in Mt. Province.

Capt. Carnie Abellanida, deputy information officer of the Cordillera Regional Police Office, identified the victim as Rindo Charwasen and his son, Renz Ardel Charwasen, a Grade 4 pupil at Layog-Ogtong Public School.

According to a report by the Natonin Municipal Police Station to Abellanida, the father and son left their house after lunch on May 14 and headed for the river in Sitio Nambatuwan, Banawel.

The relatives of the victims became alerted and started to look for them after noticing that they had not returned home at night.

The next day, May 15, the police and personnel of the Municipal Disaster Risk and Reduction Management Office responded and conducted a search operation in the river.

The divers found the father first in the depth of the river bed approximately five meters deep. After that, the divers found the second victim who was two meters away from his father.
